Ideas

Just list ideas you want to work on and contact info in hopes of quickly forming groups. Mattan will add some ideas later this week.

Improving Processor Lifetime & Saving Energy - Mehmet Basoglu

Sean and I are looking for a 3rd person for our group.

We are interested in pursuing a project that could potentially both improve processor lifetime and save energy simultaneously by carefully taking advantage of some of the built-in margins in a microprocessor. If you feel you share the same interest, please contact us at mbasoglu@mail.utexas.edu for the details. Thanks, Mehmet.

Resource budgeting in Multicore - Maysam Lavasani

The idea is to have a resource manager in a multi-core environment and decide on the allocation of shared resources(Mem BW, Cache space, Power, Cache BW, Interconnect BW, …) to different threads in a coordinated manner rather than an isolated manner. The rational behind this is different applications have different sensitivity to different resources. So sometimes it is better to give some more cache to an application rather than giving it more BW.

There has been some recent work to address this problem using machine learning approaches but I think we can have a deterministic solution which I call it budgeting for this problem. This approach also helps to judge about the performance of the threads using high level metrics rather than the low level ones.

Please contact me if you are interested through following email. maysam@mail.utexas.edu

Looking for a 3rd person - MultiCore Processors

Vivek and myself are looking for a third person for our group. We haven’t decided on a specific idea as of yet but we are interested in problem areas relating to multi-core processors. If you have an idea already, we are ready to work on that as well. If you are interested in joining us, please contact at kaviyarasanr@gmail.com and/or keviv6@gmail.com.
